Head of Structured Finance

M&T Bank seeks a Head of Structured Finance to oversee the ABS, MBS, document custody, backup servicing, and analytics team. This role holds responsibility for profitability, risk management, compliance, legal, audit, human resources, administration, and relationship management. The candidate will drive strategic growth, collaborate with other business lines, and analyze opportunities for additional products, services, and offices.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain profit and loss responsibility for the entire line of business, including planning, actuals, and product development. Monitor and assess profitability, trends, opportunities, and threats and collaborate on planning and forecasting.
  • Lead, manage, coach and mentor multiple product, geographic, administrative, and relationship leaders, ensuring staff motivation and challenge.
  • Provide external leadership through coordination with Sales and Marketing, hosting client meetings, attending conferences, writing articles, speaking at public events, and developing strategies.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of multiple products’ strategies, development, tactics, and projects in collaboration with other Business Line Leaders, Heads of Sales, and Partner teams.
  • Ensure key client relationships are fostered and maintained and implement strategies in collaboration with other lines of business.
  • Monitor competitive activity and maintain an understanding of market share, activities, and trends to guide appropriate action.
  • Lead identification, development, and implementation of process improvements to enhance service, profitability, and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable processes, procedures, and controls.
  • Work with supporting partners such as Operations, Risk, Marketing, Legal, Compliance, and Training to support line needs.
  • Exercise authority for staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations.
  • Adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls, and design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls.
  • Promote an inclusive environment that reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain internal control standards, ensuring timely implementation of audit points and regulator‑issued issues.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
Scope of Responsibilities

This position manages an entire book of business for one of the main Institutional business lines and oversees staff development through coaching, feedback, and empowerment. It delegates tasks, facilitates projects, and cultivates collaborative relationships across the bank. The job holder uses influence to inspire goal achievement and communicates regularly with internal and external clients. Performance is monitored through analysis, progress tracking, and corrective actions.

Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 11 years of related experience (or combined 15 years of higher education and/or work experience). Minimum of 4 years proven managerial experience. Proven expertise in managing a large book across geographies in a risk‑controlled, collaborative manner. Strong customer service, communication, problem resolution, resource management, decision‑making, analytical, negotiation, and project‑management skills. Industry leadership experience preferred. Certified Corporate Trust Specialist (CCTS) designation desired.

Education and Experience Preferred
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 20 years related experience.
  • Minimum 10 years experience managing a large group and budget.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • High proficiency with industry‑specific software.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Experience remediating business lines.
  • LA1 certification.
  • #WT certification.
