Position: Machine Shop Lead (2nd Shift)

Hydro, Inc. is a leading global industrial pump reengineering company headquartered in Chicago. We’re seeking an experienced Machine Shop Lead to oversee operations of our Aftermarket Pump Repair Shop on the 2nd shift (2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.).

Job Responsibilities
  • Effectively run the 2nd shift, including planning and scheduling of shop activities.
  • Manage, motivate and develop a team of machinists, mechanics and other shop personnel.
  • Ensure manufacturing goals are met, coordinating with assembly, inspection and weld shop units.
  • Communicate daily status and transition work to next shift supervisor.
  • Liaise with engineers regarding shop‑floor issues and provide input on repair strategies.
  • Maintain accurate job status reporting and purchasing materials for each job.
  • Review drawings, blueprints and work orders to delegate tasks.
  • Oversee emergency work on weekends when required.
  • Lead safety initiatives, comply with company safety guidelines and train staff.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in an industrial aftermarket environment.
  • Prior manual machinist experience with horizontal and vertical boring machines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in an equipment repair shop, preferably pumps or power generation.
  • Basic background in manual machining and welding.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with an ERP system is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Understanding of safety guidelines and ability to train staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree or higher is a plus.
  • Equivalents of experience will also be considered.
