Safety Hazmat Technician

Location: Chicago, IL service center office.

Salary: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00

Shift: 2nd Shift, Monday-Friday 5:00 PM to 3:00 AM (Full-Time)

Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Hazmat Technician is responsible for emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials cleanup, site remediation, equipment decontamination, handling of hazardous materials, and other duties as required.

• 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required
• Wear proper personal protective equipment when required, based on OSHA and industry health standards
• Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments
• Inform management of issues that arise on jobs in a timely manner
• Update job notes daily
• Physically fit; able to lift 75 lbs.
• Able to thrive in a high‑pressure and fast‑paced, team‑supported environment
• Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, following R+L procedures, properly containerizing waste/re‑use products, completing safety documentation, upholding R+L’s high level of safety
• Experience operating tools applicable to emergency response activities
• Set up and participate in live training events to ensure competency of personnel
• Audit incoming/outgoing hazardous materials shipments for compliance
• Ability and willingness to coach co‑workers on unsafe behaviors observed
• Willing to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required
• Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, customer service, and problem‑solving skills
• Proven ability to work in a confidential capacity
• Ability to handle multiple tasks while being detail‑oriented
