The SMT Process Engineer – Technical Center Lead is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Chicago Area. This role is responsible for leading technical center activities, including setting up, optimizing, and troubleshooting SMT placement systems and related automation equipment. The person in this position will develop and refine SMT processes, run equipment demonstrations, and support application engineering for customers and internal teams.

Daily responsibilities include analyzing production data, implementing process improvements, collaborating with sales and service teams, and preparing technical documentation and reports. The role also involves supporting customer training, contributing to new product evaluations, and ensuring that the technical center operates as a showcase for best-in-class smart manufacturing practices.

• Experience with SMT processes, placement equipment, and electronics manufacturing environments, including line setup and optimization.
• Knowledge of automation systems, manufacturing execution or production management software, and smart factory concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret process data and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Proficiency in technical documentation, reporting, and communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to lead projects and coordinate activities within a technical center or lab environment, including demonstrations and customer trials.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., electrical, mechanical, industrial) or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in SMT manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience with process engineering, equipment troubleshooting, and root cause analysis in a production or test environment.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for customer support, training, or technical demonstrations, as needed.
