The Mahjong Society is seeking a Social Media Manager to thoughtfully shape and elevate our digital presence as we continue to grow. This is not a plug-and-play content role — we are looking for someone who understands brand nuance, audience psychology, and how to translate in-person energy into compelling, on-trend content.

Our audience is primarily Chicago-based women who are eager to learn a new hobby, meet new people, and be part of something special. Your role is to ensure our digital presence reflects that experience with clarity, creativity, and intention.

The Social Media Manager will guide content strategy and execution across Instagram and Tik Tok. You’ll help us identify what to create, how to create it, and when to publish it — while keeping a pulse on trending formats, sounds, and platform shifts.

This role blends strategy and execution. You should be equally comfortable suggesting content ideas and bringing them to life.

Develop and guide overall social content strategy

Propose short-form video concepts tailored to Instagram and Tik Tok

Identify and adapt relevant trends, sounds, and formats

Collaborate with our team to capture content at lessons and events

Ensure content aligns with brand tone and audience expectations

Monitor performance metrics and adjust strategy accordingly

Support occasional campaign launches (events, hiring, partnerships, etc.)

Strong visual instincts and an understanding of lifestyle branding

Ability to balance trend awareness with brand consistency

Experience creating short-form video content

Clear, polished writing skills

Comfort working collaboratively while taking initiative

Understanding of audience targeting and positioning

Familiarity with American Mahjong is a plus, but not required. An appreciation for hobby-based communities and women-focused lifestyle brands is strongly preferred.

This is a part-time contractor position with flexible hours. Compensation will be based on experience and scope of work.
