Founded in 2001, LEARN is a nationally recognized non‑profit network of Pre‑K–8th grade elementary charter schools that is creating measurable, transformational change in the lives of its students. We currently educate 4,000 students, a majority low‑income, minority student population (88% and 98%, respectively) across 11 campuses, the majority of which are in Chicago, IL. LEARN also serves families in Waukegan and North Chicago IL, including families of service members located at the Great Lakes Naval Academy and Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling (JBAB) in Washington D.C. This is an in‑person work environment, not a remote opportunity.
WhatYou’ll Do
LEARN Charter School Network is seeking an entrepreneurial self‑starter with excellent project management skills to join our team as a Development Associate. This position supports the work of the Development department with responsibilities in gift acknowledgment and stewardship, database management, volunteer coordination, event planning, and communications.
Responsibilities- Track grant reporting deadlines, draft grant reports, and facilitate data collection from relevant departments.
- Coordinate grantor audits and site visits.
- Interface with finance on payment schedules and budget updates.
- Process gift acknowledgments and provide tax receipts.
- Own database management, ensuring donor records are updated and accurate.
- Complete prospect research to support development efforts.
- Author and coordinate LEARN donor newsletters and other communications.
- Manage the annual appeal including facilitating board solicitations.
- Conduct research and craft presentation materials for meetings with key stakeholders.
- Assist development office with special events.
- Represent LEARN at meetings and events.
- Coordinate board development committee meetings.
- Draft quarterly board reports.
- A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in a fast‑paced work environment.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Customer service focus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of business etiquette & protocol.
- Strong time management, project management and organizational skills.
- An ability and desire to work in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial, and deadline‑sensitive environment.
- Willingness to travel between campuses and event locations.
- Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours.
The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. It also requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set‑up and maintain work files. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non‑traditional hours. The ability to travel in the Chicagoland areas and occasionally outside the area is required. Participation and attendance at organization‑sponsored events and meetings are also required.

- Salary: $65,000 (dependent on experience).
