Philanthropy Officer, Grants

Essential Functions (critical to job function) :

The Philanthropy Officer, Grants will secure funding from corporations and private foundations in support of Center on Halsted’s mission and will write grants for government funding and support post-award grant management . Working closely with the Chief Development Officer, this staff member will be responsible for developing grant strategies and prospecting for grant opportunities . The person will collaborat e with program staff to create compelling and succinct language that brings to life Center on Halsted and its programs and with finance staff to develop grant budgets that meet funder requirements .

This position will also maintain the grants calendar and be responsible for submitting timely applications , reports and other communications to funders . The Philanthropy Officer, Grants will coordinate site visits and other meaningful contact with donors and prospect ive funder s.

Nonessential Functions: (no n - critical to job function ):

• Support Center on Halsted fundraising and stewardship events such as Human First Gala and Santa Speedo Run

• Represent Center on Halsted at internal and external events as requested

• Other duties as assigned

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospective foundation, and government donors.
• Work with program staff to develop and maintain evergreen grant language; write agency proposals and general correspondence for current and prospective funding entities, including corporations, foundations and city, state and federal government. Develop responsive language to satisfy individual funder requirements.
• Steward funders utilizing in-person and virtual meetings, as well as engagement opportunities at our three locations:
  Center on Halsted or Center on Addison in Lakeview, and Center on Cottage Grove in Woodlawn.
• Fulfill funding compliance systems utilizing The Raiser’s Edge NXT for tracking to ensure grant requirements, and reporting deadlines are satisfied .
• Work with program directors and finance team to support post-award grant management.
• Communicate with current and prospective funders to secure and maintain grants.
• Work with program directors to develop program goals, outputs, and other metrics that meet funders’ funding requirements.
• Work with finance team to develop grant budgets and provide input on budgets to maximize support for Center on Halsted.
• Monitor programmatic and financial progress on grants.
• Involve Chief Executive Officer and Senior Director, Development in donor life cycle depending on award size
• Work closely with the Senior Director, Development and Marketing and Communications Manager to develop the annual impact report.
• Regularly update and maintain pipeline projections aligned with other frontline fundraisers on the Development team to ensure accurate progress monitoring
• Ensure that all pledges and grants are accurately entered in The Raiser’s Edge NXT and properly acknowledged. Maintain records of communications with current and prospective funders in The Raiser’s Edge NXT.
• Curate at least one stewardship experience annually for private funders with the goal of deepening their relationships with Center on Halsted, ensuring it’s well-rooted in trends and innovation.
• Manage and maintain grants pipeline; library of documents that support grant proposals; and all files related to individual funders.
• Support departmental activities such as representing COH at fundraising events.
