Job Duties: The Development Assistant works under the supervision of the Director of Development and the Associate Director. S/he assists in the planning and implementation of all phases of fundraising, proposal writing, and special events. S/he prepares program reports to funding sources and maintains the donor database platform. S/he performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description Categories:

Data Entry and Reporting

  • Manages the fundraising database
  • Sends out timely acknowledgement letters to individual and organization donors
  • Tracks and develops reports on public and private funding and individual giving
  • Generates reports for evaluation and analysis purposes
  • Contributes to the production of the annual report and periodic newsletters
  • Assists in writing fundraising proposals under the direction of the Director of Development
  • Assists in planning implementing donor campaigns under the direction of the Director of Development and the Associate Director
  • Maintains an accurate and current database of funders – institutional and individual, including the funding history of each
  • Maintains records of submission deadlines for proposals to funding sources
  • Conducts prospect research on potential funding sources to broaden and diversify current funding sources

Agency and Department Participation

  • Attends monthly staff meetings and staff retreats
  • Participates on a staff committee

Advocacy

  • Participates in activities that promote the agency’s mission and its service community Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent combination of education and experience; three years of successful fundraising experience, preferably in the Chicago area within education and/or a human services organization. It also requires interpersonal skills of the highest order to communicate effectively with people of varied professional and social backgrounds.
