About the Position
The SAFE Ambassador conducts outreach and engagement on traffic safety while promoting the joy of bicycling safely in the Chicago area. This position serves as the Learn to Ride Coordinator, overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of Chicago’s dynamic, community-centered cycling education programs. This role ensures the successful delivery of Learn to Ride (LTR), Skill-Builder, and Road Ride classes, as well as new initiatives such as the annual student bike ride.
The Learn to Ride Coordinator leads program strategy, supervises staff, maintains strong partnerships, and ensures high-quality, accessible programming for communities across Chicago.
As part of a team of Ambassadors and under the management of an external office with whom ATA is a subcontractor, the SAFE Ambassador is a Chicago-based position that regularly travels around the city and interacts with the public on a daily basis. This role is a 40-hour a week salaried position and exempt from overtime.

About YouA successful SAFE Ambassador-Learn to Ride Coordinator is an organized, adaptable, and community-focused leader with experience in program coordination and team supervision. You bring strong communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships, and confidence in managing logistics across multiple locations. You are proactive, dependable, and comfortable making decisions in dynamic, outdoor environments. You excel at problem-solving, staying calm under pressure, and guiding staff through fast-paced, hands‑on programming.
In addition, you share ATA’s passion for and understanding of the transformational nature of walking, bicycling and transit. You value equity, community engagement, and accessible transportation, demonstrating empathy, patience, and cultural awareness when working with diverse residents—from first-time riders to long-time cyclists. You are collaborative, supportive, and motivated by helping others grow. You are also curious and improvement-oriented, regularly refining processes and seeking ways to expand the program’s impact.
Cycling knowledge is a plus, but a commitment to safety, learning, and teamwork is essential.
