The Inclusive Climate Action (ICA) Senior Manager for Africa will be a central figure in promoting equity and inclusivity within C40’s Resilient Urban Futures programme. This position requires close interaction with city officials and technical experts to identify key priority adaptation actions for collaboration between cities and local communities. The role demands ensuring a thorough mainstreaming of ICA principles across the programme, coordinating with programme work stream managers, and fostering coherent policy and technical assistance delivery.

The position involves collaborating with African cities to implement priority adaptation actions from their Climate Action Plans (CAPs) by identifying critical partnerships and opportunities to embed equity and inclusivity. The manager will design and deliver tailored technical assistance projects and mainstream adaptation across various sectors. Providing technical support on climate risk assessments and integrating equity into climate adaptation and governance is pivotal.

• Support cities in the African Region with the implementation of priority adaptation actions.
• Design and deliver technical assistance projects to promote equitable adaptation interventions.
• Collaborate to mainstream adaptation across financial strategies and climate governance frameworks.
• Provide technical support on climate risk assessments and adaptation planning.
• Contribute to capacity building and strengthen city officials’ skills in climate adaptation.
• Engage in eliciting and sharing learnings and best practice examples across cities.
• Act as the policy expert and main contact for City Resilient Advisors on climate and inclusion issues.
• Coordinate C40-supported activities to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
• Develop annual work plans, track KPIs, and contribute evidence to donors and partners.
• Build strategic partnerships to amplify adaptation efforts and promote collaboration.
• Participate in C40 knowledge networks and forums to scale good practices.

• Proven experience working with municipal administrations in Africa on climate action plans.
• Demonstrated understanding of challenges and opportunities in engaging with city officials.
• Ability to convene and influence diverse stakeholders.
• Relevant qualifications or professional experience in climate change adaptation or related fields.
• Experience in translating technical climate data into policy decisions.
• Strong project management skills with excellent organizational abilities.
• Demonstrated collaboration with global partners including NGOs and corporate sectors.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience in diverse cultures and languages preferred.
• Fluency in English and the local language is required.
