Position OverviewThe Program team builds a culture of volunteerism and civic engagement in Chicago. The team is responsible for volunteer engagement and capacity building models that diversify service opportunities, advance civic action in our city, and help volunteers find, champion and lead on causes about which they care. The team is a catalyst for change by promoting diverse civic action opportunities and equipping organizations and corporations, small and large, and civic leaders, young and old, to build a more vibrant and equitable Chicago.

- Diversifies civic action in partnership with organizations that provide pathways to deeper engagement in service, philanthropy, voice, vote and collective action.
- Develops leadership across the corporate, non-profit, and civic landscape and cultivates volunteers for civic leadership.
- Strengthens the non-profit and corporate sectors’ strategic use of volunteers through capacity building engagements, consulting, and employee engagement opportunities.
- Connects volunteers, across lines of difference, to community-led and collective impact change efforts.
- Builds empathy and a deeper understanding of the assets and challenges of Chicago’s neighborhoods.
- Cultivates and inspires volunteers to serve in new and different ways.
The Volunteer Outreach Coordinator is vital for fostering community engagement and building a more connected and equitable society. The Volunteer Outreach Coordinator is responsible for managing and cultivating relationships and programs that engage volunteers, nonprofits, and stakeholders in service and strengthening the strategic use of volunteers through capacity‑building engagements.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Relationship and Account Management
- Volunteer Strategy:
Participate in planning, strategy setting, implementation and reporting on annual projections for volunteer relationships and development.

- Volunteer Cultivation, Solicitation, and Stewardship
- Strategically Chicago Cares’ impact to prospective and current volunteers (including leaders and leader prospects), in order to move them towards greater civic engagement. Steward volunteers (including leaders and leader prospects) through the entire continuum of experiences with Chicago Cares, including efforts to ensure all engagement, cultivation and fundraising goals are met through Chicago Cares’ initiatives.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Support interdepartmental teams as they relate to projects pertaining to volunteer community building, volunteer leadership development, and volunteer engagement in co‑design and collaborative fundraising strategies. Support project teams assigned to the execution of strategic projects, work closely with program staff to coordinate project planning efforts, and ensure volunteer, partner and community needs are met. Ensure the health and relevance of engagements and manage standards collaboratively with other managers.
- CRM Data Management
- Enter and track information on volunteers and build and generate reports within the donor CRM database (Salesforce) that support effective strategy and relationship management.
