The salary range for this position is $39.00 - $62.40 (Hourly Rate). Placement within the salary range is dependent on factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For union-represented positions, placement follows the collective bargaining agreement.

The Prentice Women's Hospital SDS/PACU is a multifaceted unit that provides world-class care to patients undergoing gynecological, plastic, and breast surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Our nurses provide care to some of the most complex gynecological, plastic, and breast patients in the State of Illinois. Prentice SDS/PACU allows nurses to advance their skillset by combining cutting-edge technology and critical thinking skills to provide evidence-based comprehensive nursing care to our highly complex patient population.

Responsibilities
  • Advocates in accordance with the patient-centered care model, developing individualized culturally sensitive nursing plans, incorporating the role of patient advocate, using a team approach and acknowledging contributions of significant others.
  • Identifies potential conflict situations and facilitates resolution using established communication channels, promotes and strives to protect the health, safety and rights of the patient, protects patients by maintaining a safe environment, participates in research activities including evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Practices safe surgery specific post-operative care, assessing potential complications and discharge teaching, identifies potential pre-anesthetic surgical risk factors.
  • Advances clinical expertise through continuing education, specialty certification, enhances skills, educates team members, patients and students; demonstrates critical thinking by integrating knowledge and posing relevant clinical questions.
  • Sets realistic and measurable goals, prescribes, implements nursing interventions in a safe and timely manner, develops and implements individualized education plans for patients and families, evaluates and documents patients responses to nursing interventions, identifies situations requiring further intervention and escalates appropriately.
  • Participates in the formation, implementation and evaluation of team goals, appropriately delegates and supervises interventions, conveys complete, timely and accurate information at hand off.
  • Participates in community volunteer initiatives annually.
  • Consistently demonstrates interpersonal connections with patients and families, proactively responds to patient concerns, treats patients, families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity, facilitates recovery and helps ensure peaceful death for patients.
