Department

BSD OBG – Generalists – Advanced Practice Providers. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 114 clinical providers, delivering care at the main hospital in Hyde Park and seven off‑site locations. It handles more than 60,000 outpatient visits, 25,000 ultrasound visits, 2,800 deliveries, and 3,000 gynecological surgeries per year. Teaching, research, and high‑quality clinical care are top priorities. The residency and fellowship programs are highly ranked and have a history of training leaders in health care.

The Department also has a significant research enterprise, engaging in population health studies and wet‑lab research on tumor biology, fibroid disease, and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.

Job Summary

The APP/APN will use best practices and patient knowledge to exercise autonomous decision‑making in assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation, and research. The APP/APN will provide high‑quality medical services across multiple areas, including well‑woman care, problem visits, post‑operative care, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, under the supervision or alternate supervision of attending physicians.

Candidates must hold both Indiana and Illinois licenses and spend at least one full clinical day at the Crown Point facility.

Responsibilities
  • Provide care as an Advanced Practice Provider/Advanced Practice Nurse, qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients under the supervision or alternate supervision of attending physicians.
  • Deliver a range of services including well‑woman care, problem visits, post‑operative care, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with attending physicians and medical trainees to ensure patient care is aligned with the highest standards.
  • Independently see patients at Hyde Park and/or off‑site clinic locations.
  • Administer, order, and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., ultrasounds, CT scans, lab tests, X‑rays, ECGs).
  • Perform comprehensive physical exams to assess patients’ conditions.
  • Counsel patients on prescribed therapeutic regimens, emotional health, daily living concerns, and health maintenance.
  • Diagnose and manage patient conditions, making decisions regarding treatment plans.
  • Obtain and document patient medical history, progress notes, and results from physical exams.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures, including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Prescribe medication and other therapies as appropriate.
  • Assist with or perform specialty‑specific procedures related to Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Participate in hospital rounds, monitor patients, update medical records, order therapies, and report findings to supervising physicians.
  • Order medical and laboratory supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Design patient education programs that include information required to make informed health‑care and treatment decisions.
  • Evaluate goals and outcomes, considering benefit‑versus‑burden, safety, quality, and cost‑effectiveness for the patient, family, and the organization.
  • Develop diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care.
  • Apply deep knowledge of adverse drug reactions, particularly with vulnerable populations (infants, children, pregnant and lactating women, older adults).
  • Develop and coordinate APP training and professional development activities.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college.

Work Experience

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline.
