Description

The Nurse Clinician will work in a multidisciplinary environment that requires exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, clinical and administrative units. The position utilizes nursing skills to perform patient assessments via phone or in person and implements nursing interventions. The role also involves initiating and organizing patient education for the population served by the unit.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and report deficiencies to supervisor immediately. Assist in rectifying deficiencies as requested. Assume responsibility for and supervise appropriate care of medical equipment.
  • Provide pre-attending care for patients. Perform comprehensive assessments of the chief complaint and patient needs using the nursing process, offer opinions to providers, and document all assessments in the patient’s medical record. Ensure confidentiality and uphold protocols for release of patient information.
  • Perform routine nursing duties independently, including phlebotomy, medication administration, vital sign measurement, laboratory specimen preparation, and complex specialty procedures such as conscious sedation, chemotherapy administration, inseminations, pain pump adjustments, and wound excision and drainage.
  • Interpret abnormal test results, take remedial action, and document interventions clearly, completely, and legibly.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other clinical and administrative departments to coordinate appropriate care and, when needed, with outside agencies.
  • Triage and prioritize incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and service standards, documenting all assessments accurately.
  • Manage urgent/emergent medical situations according to organizational protocols for emergencies and cardiac arrests. Operate emergency equipment as appropriate.
  • Serve as a resource for staff and physicians for daily problem solving and decision-making, delegating tasks in accordance with Illinois law and organizational protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with all patient care policies and propose new policies to improve patient experience, implementing them promptly.
  • Initiate and coordinate patient education, ensuring understanding and demonstrating teaching to staff. Participate in community outreach education and patient support groups as requested.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • State Licensed Registered Nurse for State of employment
  • Certification in Basic CPR
  • 2 years of relevant clinical experience in an acute or ambulatory care environment

Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing (may be required for certain positions)

Schedule
  • 8‑hour shifts Monday/Tuesday/ every other Thursday/ Friday
