Registered Nurse – Traumatic Brain Innovation Center – Full‑time, Days
Join Shirley Ryan Ability Lab as a registered nurse caring for patients in our Traumatic Brain Innovation Center. This role includes specialized nursing care, patient assessment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities- Provide professional nursing care for comfort and wellbeing of patients, including specialized treatment, administering medications, and coordinating care with other departments.
- Collect physiological, psychosocial, and functional data to formulate nursing diagnoses using evidence‑based instruments.
- Assist physicians during examinations and treatments.
- Formulate nursing diagnoses, integrate data from team members, and document in written assessment.
- Assess patients, identify status changes, set priorities, and recognize crisis situations.
- Implement interventions consistent with the care plan, evaluate progress, and modify plan as needed.
- Provide patients and families with information on care, expected outcomes, and home‑care instructions.
- Prepare reports on patient care plans, complete assignment sheets, and document care.
- Review, evaluate, and recommend policy and procedural changes related to patient care.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in the best interest of the center.
Reports directly to the Nurse Manager.
Qualifications- BSN/Master’s or Associate Degree in Nursing; commitment to complete BSN/MSN within 2 years.
- Active Illinois RN license.
- CPR certification.
- Knowledge of developmental growth across age groups.
- Strong communication (verbal, non‑verbal, and written).
- Ability to take ownership, meet goals, and resolve problems.
- Critical thinking and sound judgment to monitor and respond to patient needs.
- Ability to anticipate, assess, and address patient needs.
- Physical ability to transfer and position patients, lifting up to 35 lbs.
- Standard patient care environment with minimal dust or extreme temperatures.
- Moderate adverse conditions during patient care activities.
- Occasional exposure to infectious diseases.
