Salary: $34.50 – $55.20 hourly.

The Nurse Clinician will work in a multidisciplinary environment requiring exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with patients, physicians, clinical, and administrative units. This position will utilize nursing skills to perform patient assessments via phone or in person and implement nursing interventions; the ability to use appropriate judgment, independent thinking and creativity when resolving patient care issues is essential.

The clinician will also initiate and organize patient education for the population served by the unit.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations. Report deficiencies to supervisor immediately and assist in rectifying them as requested. Assume responsibility for supervising appropriate care of medical equipment.
  • Provide pre-attending care for patients. For each patient, perform a comprehensive assessment of the chief complaint and needs using the nursing process. Seek solutions, offer opinions to physicians and other health care providers, and document all assessments in the medical record. Maintain confidentiality and comply with release protocols.
  • Perform routine nursing duties and demonstrate clinical competency, including phlebotomy, medication administration, vital sign measurement, lab specimen preparation, and specialty procedures such as conscious sedation, chemotherapy administration, inseminations, pain pump adjustments, and wound excision and drainage.
  • Interpret abnormalities detected in tests and procedures and take appropriate remedial action. Document all interventions clearly and legibly.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other departments and outside agencies to coordinate appropriate patient care.
  • Triage and prioritize incoming telephone calls using clinical assessment skills and service standards. Document all assessments appropriately.
  • Manage urgent/emergent medical situations per organization protocols. Operate emergency equipment as required.
  • Serve as a resource for staff and physicians for daily problem solving and decision-making. Maintain alertness to patient care needs and proactively address / resolve issues. Delegate tasks to Licensed Practical Nurses and Medical Assistants according to Illinois law and protocols.
  • Comply with all existing policies and procedures related to patient care. Recommend new policies and procedures that may improve patient experience and ensure timely implementation.
  • Initiate and coordinate patient education. Ensure patients understand materials and demonstrate competence when necessary. Provide teaching to staff formally or informally, and participate in community outreach and support groups.
Qualifications Required
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing school
  • State Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of employment
  • Certification in Basic CPR
  • 2 years of relevant clinical experience in an acute or ambulatory care environment
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (may be required for certain positions)
