The Lab Manager will oversee day-to-day operations of the molecular biology laboratory, ensuring it runs efficiently and safely. The successful candidate will support lab operations, order and maintain supplies and equipment, and participate in and support scientific research, including an independent research project. This person will work closely with undergraduate and graduate students within the lab and aid postdocs in succeeding in their research.
This position is for a molecular biology laboratory within the PSD and James Franck Institute.
- Conduct independent research projects, including executing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting results.
- Provide hands-on assistance for lab members as they conduct their own research projects.
- Train staff and students in current lab protocols and develop new protocols as needed.
- Review and assist undergraduate lab assistants with their experiments.
- Oversee day-to-day lab operations to ensure efficiency and safety.
- Coordinate lab group activities, including scheduling and personnel support.
- Work independently in an organized, detail-oriented manner within a collaborative team.
- Support lab goals by ordering and maintaining supplies, maintaining instruments, organizing the lab, and assisting with training of new lab members.
- Optimize and document experimental protocols.
- Provide technical and administrative support for a research project.
- Install, set up and perform experiments, interacting with students and other lab staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
- Perform other related work as needed.
- Minimum Qualifications:
a college or university degree in a related field. - Preferred Qualifications (Education):
Bachelor’s degree in physics, chemistry, or related field.
- Minimum requirements:
knowledge and skills developed through less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. - Experience in molecular techniques such as nucleic acid preps, PCR, gel electrophoresis and blotting.
- Experience in sterile technique and culturing; yeast experience is a plus.
- Understanding of molecular genetics and molecular evolution.
- Ability to work independently, with strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and meticulous organizational abilities.

Pay range: $55,000.00 - $67,000.00.
