The laboratory of Dr. John Kubasiak at Loyola University Chicago's Burn Shock Trauma Research Institute (BSTRI) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team studying the mechanisms of vascular dysfunction, endothelial injury, and immune dysregulation following severe burn and critical illness. This position is supported by a recently awarded NIH R35 grant, providing long-term support for mechanistic and translational investigations centered on angiopoietin/Tie2 signaling, microvascular repair, and host response after injury.
ResearchFocus & Techniques
The successful candidate will lead and contribute to projects using cutting-edge molecular, cellular, and spatial profiling approaches to dissect vascular and immune signaling across injury models. Key technologies and methodologies include:
- Single-cell RNA-seq/CITE-seq, bulk RNA profiling, and spatial transcriptomics and proteomics
- qPCR and flow cytometry
- Cell culture, ELISAs, and murine experimentation (burn, infection, and resuscitation models)
- Histology, immunofluorescence, and biomarker quantification
- Translational science platforms including organ-on-chip, bioreactor systems, and bioinformatics workflows for high-dimensional data integration
- Design and perform independent and collaborative experiments in vascular biology, inflammation, and endothelial signaling.
- Analyze high-dimensional data from single-cell and spatial platforms in coordination with BSTRI's bioinformatics core.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across BSTRI, including groups focused on resuscitation, regenerative medicine, and host-pathogen interactions.
- Present findings at national conferences and contribute to manuscript and grant preparation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree in biomedical sciences (e.g., immunology, vascular biology, molecular biology, physiology).
Qualifications- PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree in biomedical sciences (e.g., immunology, vascular biology, molecular biology, physiology).
- Demonstrated proficiency in molecular and cell biology techniques; prior experience in omics data or animal models preferred.
- Strong publication record, scientific rigor, and collaborative mindset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
