Position

The Department of Oral Biology at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry seeks a highly motivated full‑time Postdoctoral Research Associate who will conduct research activities under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Miya Kang. The postdoctoral research associate will focus on bone regeneration with an emphasis on the immunomodulatory role of macrophages. Work will involve experimental animal models and the isolation and culture of primary cells.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and other researchers to design research objectives
  • Test, optimize and implement both new and existing methods/techniques
  • Develop comprehensive laboratory protocols while maintaining accurate records of the work performed
  • Generate data, compile figures and draft documents for grant applications and peer‑reviewed manuscripts
  • Supervise and train others in specialized tasks
  • Maintain lab notebook
  • Present research findings at national/scientific conferences
  • Perform related duties and participate in special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in immunology or related health science fields; applicants must be within the first 3 years of receiving their PhD/Doctorate degree
  • Comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology
  • Proficiency in lab research techniques (cell culture of primary cells, western blot, DNA and RNA purification, PCR, RT‑PCR, immunohistochemical analysis)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience handling rodents and isolating primary cells
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics analysis (R, Python, etc.)
  • Experience with cloning and gene‑editing techniques
