Job SummaryWe are looking for a self‑motivated, research‑focused individual to join the Barreiro lab as the Laboratory Manager. This role supports the genetic and epigenetic study of inter‑individual variation in immune responses and disease susceptibility. As Lab Manager you will oversee day‑to‑day lab operations, maintain compliance, and serve as the primary contact for collaborators.
Responsibilities- Manage, maintain, and ensure laboratory compliance with human subjects (IRB), biosafety (IBC), and animal usage (IACUC) protocols.
- Ensure adherence to safe laboratory practices, upkeep of the laboratory environment and equipment, and participate in laboratory meetings and functions.
- Provide logistical support for the lab, including ordering, organizing, and stocking supplies.
- Assist the principal investigator with administrative tasks such as mailing, shipping, event organization, and other duties as required.
- Perform experiments to characterize the genetic basis of inter‑individual variation in immune responses to infectious agents.
- Generate induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), differentiate iPSC‑derived macrophages, infect them with level 2 infectious agents (e.g., Salmonella, influenza viruses), and produce RNA‑seq and ATAC‑seq libraries from infected and non‑infected cells.
- Apply subject‑matter expertise to perform lab and research‑related duties, often working independently to assist with project design.
- Solve complex problems related to project administration, including planning new procedures, adapting existing ones, and contributing meaningfully to methodology.
- Perform additional related tasks as needed.
- College or university degree in a related field (minimum).
- Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted (preferred).
- 5‑7 years of work experience in a related discipline (minimum).
- Previous lab management experience (preferred).
- Ability to train others.
- Knowledge in relevant scientific fields.
- Proficiency with research techniques and methods.
- Familiarity with regulatory policies and procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
