About The Department
Investigators at the University of Chicago’s Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care are studying the medicinal effects of herbs, including those used in the Far East and increasingly in the United States. The Tang Center collaborates with BSD and aims to advance discoveries to benefit patients. The center is led by Chun-Su Yuan, MD, PhD, Director of the Center.
Job SummaryWe are seeking to hire a Research Technologist in the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Chicago.
Responsibilities- The Research Technologist position will be situated in the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research in the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care.
- Familiar with in vitro and in vivo experiments with biological techniques, such as in vitro cancer cell culture and observations, western blot, and in vivo animal anti-diabetes and gut microbiome studies.
- Follows protocols; designs, sets-up and conducts basic experiments.
- Analyzes data obtained from individual experiments and recommends alternatives to improve processes, validity and/or accuracy.
- Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting and entering data.
- Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan, and ensures project compliance with different policies and mandates.
- Manipulates, interprets and/or presents results, prepares charts and graphs.
- Performs scientific literature searches, writes reports and manuscripts.
- Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
- Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Education
Advanced degree in biomedicine or related field.
Experience
Relevant research experience; biomedical science strongly preferred.
Technical Skills or Knowledge
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferred Competencies
Communicate with tact and diplomacy; strong organizational and communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; strong data management and attention to detail; ability to read and understand complex documents; adaptability to changing working situations and assignments.
