About The DepartmentThe Section of Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is a national leader in research leading to the development of new insights in the treatment of endocrine diseases and disorders. Work in the areas of diabetes, thyroid and sleep disorders has been greatly advanced by the University of Chicago endocrinology faculty. Our research activities are supported by multiple sources including the National Institute of Health (NIH) and non‑federal granting agencies.
The Section is home to one of 16 NIH‑funded Diabetes Research and Training Centers.
Under general supervision the Research Technologist will perform moderately complex lab and/or research‑related duties and tasks.
Responsibilities- Setting up and performing experiments.
- Maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Maintaining the mouse colony needed for experiments—including setting up breeding cages, weaning mice, and genotyping.
- Assisting with developing data collection tools, building databases, and providing general administrative support in the lab.
- Interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
- Providing technical and administrative support for a research project.
- Analyzing and maintaining data and/or specimens, conducting literature reviews, and assisting with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
- Performing other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- College or university degree in a related field.
- Less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted.
- Relevant research experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge in a relevant scientific field.
- Knowledge of research techniques or methods relevant to the lab—PCR and sequencing, WES data analysis, website design, building sample databases, mouse handling and husbandry, genotyping of mice, cell culture, western blot, enzymatic assays, radioimmunoassays.
