Pay Range: $32.00 - $46.44 per hour

Summary

The Rush Alzheimer’s Disease Center is seeking a Research Scientist II. This person will be involved in helping to examine how life-course risk factors interact with plasma biomarkers and genetics to influence cognitive decline in the Black Women’s Health Study. The Black Women’s Health Study (BWHS), initiated in 1995 to assess causes of cancers and non-malignant illnesses among Black women, is conducting a cognitive aging study with Rush University.

The position at Rush will utilize knowledge of cognitive function, epidemiology, and health disparities, statistics, and other fields. Specific conditions of study will include cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease, related dementias, health disparities, and others. This person will troubleshoot and evaluate data, contribute to planning of analyses, and prepare manuscripts based on results. The work requires the application of highly specialized knowledge of neuropsychology.

Some of the related techniques that may be applied in the research will include comprehensive literature reviews with summarization, working with data management and laboratories to identify variables for projects, harmonize data between BWHS and Rush cohorts, writing detailed biostatistical requests, summarizing data outputs, drafting, and revising manuscripts for publication, presentations at scientific meetings, and otherwise. The Research Scientist II is involved in training students (such as PhD candidates) and postdocs and will be expected to do occasional presentations within the scientific group.

Required

Job Qualifications
  • Ph.D. with 3 years of experience in human research on neurodegeneration, with a focus on dementia or a Master’s degree with 6 years of research experience.
Responsibilities
  • Design and execute complex research procedures.
  • Prepare and/or publish scientific papers and manuscripts
  • Write research proposals for grant submissions
  • Plan and conduct of statistical analysis of data
  • Prepare abstracts and meeting materials to present (slides, posters)
  • Examine the levels of different genes, protein, and other data collected in biospecimens
  • Leverage extensive data across demographic, clinical, and environmental factors for analyses
  • Maintain project databases
  • Plan meetings (such as investigator meetings and other scientific/operational meetings)
  • Mentor trainees
  • Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research programs.
  • Coordinate research study activities: lead and manage projects.
  • May oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.
  • Collaborate with principal investigators in determining study design and performing statistical analyses.
  • Develop study questions and design projects related to the aging human brain
