OverviewThe Children’s Environmental Health Initiative (CEHI) at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking a Research Associate I (GIS Analyst) to conduct spatial analyses, create maps and spatial databases, and support capacity building efforts.
Duties & Responsibilities- Develop and present exploratory data analysis of relevant datasets
- Create, edit and maintain geospatial metadata
- Create maps, charts, tables, graphs and graphics using GIS and related software
- Develop and maintain geospatial databases
- Prepare, provide and update data sets to include spatial components
- Modify and test existing scripts
- Support CEHI's GIS capacity building efforts
- Create and manage references lists for publications and grants
- Conduct research to locate and obtain relevant data
- Complete all required unit trainings and maintain frequent and effective communication with coworkers, student supervisors, and professional staff
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures
- Entry level knowledge of research methods
- Experience using GIS software (Esri Products, QGIS)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a team-based environment
- Ability to solve problems within limits of departmental policy and procedures
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently to accomplish all tasks to a high standard
