Position: Restaurant Support

Restaurant Support

Truth be Told, our British Gastropub, located inside The Study at the University of Chicago in Hyde Park, is seeking a full‑time Restaurant Support with weekend availability. Hours of operation are seven days a week, 7 AM to 10 PM.

Responsibilities

Provide the highest and most efficient level of hospitality and customer service expected by our guests.

Food Runner Responsibilities
  • Prepare room service trays with condiments, candles, napkins, service plates and utensils.
  • Support servers by running food from the kitchen to the table.
  • Ensure all side work is completed throughout the shift, including polishing, silverware, glassware, roll‑ups, water vases, and par‑level checks.
  • Expedite and ensure all food is up to par and consistent.
  • Monitor guests’ dining experience, responding promptly and courteously to correct any problems.
  • Maintain a knowledge of all menu items and beverage programs.
  • Be a team player, assisting others when and where necessary to ensure a seamless guest experience.
  • Complete the setup and breakdown of a section, including detailed cleaning of the work area and surrounding areas.
  • Work with servers to ensure orders are completed according to request and on time.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Report any damages, shortcomings, or disturbances to supervisors.
  • Ensure restaurant operation procedures and hygiene meet food safety standards and regulations.
  • Be flexible to work a schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the Restaurant Manager.
Busser Responsibilities
  • Prepare rooms for dining by clothing tables and setting decorations, condiments, candles, napkins, service plates and utensils.
  • Support servers by bussing, cleaning, and setting tables at the end of a guest’s meal.
  • Ensure all side work is completed throughout the shift, including polishing, silverware, glassware, roll‑ups, water vases, and par‑level checks.
  • Assist the host/hostess in greeting and seating guests.
  • Monitor guests’ dining experience, responding promptly and courteously to correct any problems.
  • Maintain a knowledge of all menu items and beverage programs.
  • Be a team player, assisting others when and where necessary to ensure a seamless guest experience.
  • Complete the setup and breakdown of a section, including detailed cleaning of the work area and surrounding areas.
  • Work with servers to ensure orders are completed according to request and on time.

Qualifications
  • Friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years of experience in a formal dining or upscale casual environment.
  • Flexibility to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English required.
  • Strong organizational skills, including follow‑up, time management, and ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments.
  • Ability to lift or move goods weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods indoors with a climate‑controlled workstation.
  • Completion of a satisfactory background check.
