All About General Merchandise
Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The GM and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all GM areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

  • Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest-first culture across the store
  • Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement
  • Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

Typical responsibilities for a General Merchandise Expert
:

  • Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests during daily tasks
  • Engage with guests to assist with their needs
  • Thank guests and acknowledge their decision to shop at Target
  • Execute daily tasks to support goals, including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs for GM areas
  • Operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures if certified
  • Process pricing changes, merchandise setup and maintenance, and inventory accuracy as directed
  • Learn how procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability
  • Be knowledgeable about store resources and services to solve guest issues
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance
  • Work safely; comply with safety policies and training; report hazards
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes (picking/packing orders or delivering pickup orders) while complying with laws
  • All other duties based on business needs

Physical and scheduling considerations

  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
  • Climb ladders when required
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds without assistance
  • Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable attendance
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions; exposure to elements may occur
  • Ability to stay mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift
