SummaryUnder the general supervision of a Security Supervisor, the armed Security Officer will provide physical protection for persons and safeguarding of property on the Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) Campus. The security officer will report and document infractions of rules, regulations and policies of RUMC, and violations of federal, state and local laws and/or ordinances. The security officer will exemplify the RUMC missions, visions and values and act in accordance with RUMC policies and procedures.
Qualifications- High School graduate or GED.
- Previous Hospital Security Experience preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license (Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin) and acceptable driving record.
- Current Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
- Completed 28 hours firearm training with certification.
- Eligible to obtain a Firearm Control Card (FCC) within 90 days of employment.
- Illinois Firearm’s Owner’s Identification Permit (FOID).
- International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification within six months of employment and maintained thereafter.
- Ability to handle confidential matters and exercise independent judgment with excellent customer service skills.
- Physically able to stand or walk during the majority of duty, withstand weather extremes, and wear body armor.
- Provide fixed, walking and vehicular patrols of all RUMC buildings and grounds.
- Perform Security Services Dispatch functions.
- Conduct basic interviews and investigations.
- Observe and document security and safety hazards.
- Prepare incident reports, memorandums and other written documentation.
- Assist local police agencies during investigations or emergencies.
- Monitor and assist with access control and visitor management.
- Control and enforce vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns in the Medical Center as assigned.
- Provide security escort services as assigned.
- Participate in property control procedures (accept, record, store, return, or release to authorized persons).
- Respond to emergency situations (i.e. Code Red, Blue, Code Triage, Code Orange, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
