Pay Range: $0 - $0 per hour

This role reports to a Security Supervisor. The armed Security Officer provides physical protection for persons and safeguarding of property on the Rush University Medical Center (RUMC) Campus. The officer reports and documents infractions of rules and policies, violations of laws, and serves as an exemplar of RUMC mission, values and procedures.

Qualifications

High School graduate or GED.

Valid driver's (Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin) license required; acceptable driving record per Motor Vehicle Report check.

Must possess and maintain current Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).

Must have completed 28 hours firearm training with certification of successful completion.

Eligible to obtain a Firearm Control Card (FCC)
* within 90 days of employment.

Illinois Firearm’s Owner’s Identification Permit (FOID) required.

International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (“IAHSS”) certification required within six months of employment and thereafter.

Skills:

Confidential handling, independent judgment, excellent customer service.

Physical:
Must be able to stand or walk majority of duty, withstand weather extremes for external assignments, qualify for firearm use, wear body armor.

Responsibilities
  • Provide fixed, walking and vehicular patrols of all RUMC buildings and grounds.
  • Perform Security Services Dispatch functions.
  • Conduct basic interviews and investigations.
  • Observe and document security and safety hazards.
  • Prepare incident reports, memorandums and other written documentation.
  • Assist local police agencies during investigations or emergencies.
  • Monitor and assist with access control and visitor management.
  • Control and enforce vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns in the Medical Center as assigned.
  • Provide security escort services as assigned.
  • Participate in property control procedures.
  • Respond to emergency situations (e.g., Code Red, Blue, Code Triage, Code Orange).Perform other duties as assigned.
