Job Summary Under general supervision and according to established policies, provides unarmed uniformed security/safety related services. The services support the department’s mission to provide high quality service and to protect persons and property from harm. May also perform duties of bicycle patrol officer.

• Patrol assigned areas of facilities and grounds on foot or in motorized vehicle according to established schedule and investigate unusual occurrences.
• Report incidents or potential loss of Hospital, employee, patient or visitor property through fire, theft or vandalism and involve police if necessary.
• Respond to all service calls in a timely, safe, professional and courteous manner.
• Welcome customers to the Hospital. Provide directions to patients and visitors to ensure they understand how to get to any location on Hospital Grounds. Escort individuals when possible.
• Direct vehicle traffic to prevent congestion. Keep loading docks and ambulance zones clear of unauthorized vehicles. Issue parking citations and maintain record.
• Physically restrain unruly patients or visitors posing a threat and involve police if necessary. Provide assistance including court testimony.
• Administer appropriate control systems to protect patient and employee valuables and hospital equipment. Monitor lost and found items.
• Check hospital doors and windows for secure lock. Inspect equipment, alarms, fire extinguishers and other items. Notify personnel of problems.
• Investigate and document thefts, accidents and other incidents to obtain evidence. Prepare documentation neatly, accurately and completely.

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year experience in a customer-focused service-based organization

• Knowledge base developed through a minimum of two years of experience in law enforcement, military or private security
• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Fundamental understanding of computers, loss prevention and fire/security technology

• Valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification Card within 90 days of start date
• Current CPR certification issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days of start date
• Valid driver’s license. If using personal vehicle, maintain automobile liability coverage and provide evidence as required.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within six months of hire

• IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer certification within twelve months of start date
