I'm partnering with a growing engineering and field services organization looking to add experienced Electrical Apparatus Testing Technicians to support utility, industrial, renewable energy, data center, and EPC projects across the U.S.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on electrical testing professional who enjoys testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining high-voltage and medium-voltage power equipment across substations and critical power environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical apparatus testing, commissioning, maintenance testing, troubleshooting, and startup activities.
  • Test power transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear, CTs/PTs, cables, bus, grounding systems, batteries, and other electrical power equipment.
  • Perform transformer testing including insulation resistance, winding resistance, turns ratio, power factor/tan delta, excitation current, and related diagnostic testing.
  • Perform low-, medium-, and high-voltage circuit breaker testing including contact resistance, insulation resistance, timing, travel, and primary injection testing.
  • Test CTs and PTs including ratio, polarity, insulation, excitation, and related electrical tests.
  • Perform cable testing including insulation resistance, VLF, Hi-Pot, and other applicable diagnostic testing.
  • Perform grounding system testing, battery testing, and electrical equipment inspections.
  • Complete primary current injection testing on switch gear, breakers, and associated electrical distribution equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment failures and identify issues with transformers, breakers, switch gear, cables, and other apparatus.
  • Read and interpret one-line diagrams, electrical drawings, equipment manuals, and test procedures.
  • Complete test reports, field documentation, equipment condition reports, and commissioning records.
What We’re Looking For
  • 3+ years of electrical apparatus testing, electrical testing, or substation commissioning experience.
  • Hands‑on experience testing medium‑and high‑voltage electrical equipment.
  • Experience testing transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear, CTs/PTs, cables, or similar power system equipment.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment from manufacturers such as Doble, Megger, Omicron, Vanguard, Phenix, or similar.
  • Experience performing tests such as TTR, winding resistance, insulation resistance, power factor/tan delta, contact resistance, breaker timing, and primary injection.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical power equipment and interpret test results.
  • Ability to read one‑line diagrams, electrical drawings, and equipment schematics.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience testing equipment from low voltage through medium and high voltage.
  • Experience with Doble M4000/M4100, Doble TDR, Megger, Omicron CPC 100, Vanguard, or similar apparatus testing equipment.
  • Experience with SF6, vacuum, and air circuit breakers.
  • Experience supporting utility, industrial, renewable energy, data center, or EPC projects.
  • Previous experience leading testing crews, outages, maintenance programs, or commissioning projects.
What’s on Offer
  • Competitive compensation – $50–$80/hour.
  • Per diem and travel opportunities.
  • Long-term pipeline of electrical testing and commissioning projects.
  • Exposure to utility, industrial, renewable energy, data center, and EPC projects.
  • Long-term career progression with a growing organization.
  • Opportunities to progress into Senior, Lead, and supervisory electrical testing positions.
