Senior Software Engineer; Chicago

About the role

Chime Engineering is growing rapidly as we scale to meet the financial needs of our members. We’re looking for driven engineers to join our team and work on our real-time rules engine that empowers internal teams to build, test, and deploy decisioning logic across fraud prevention, financial crime, account management, and money movement.

As a senior engineer, you’ll own projects end-to-end: shaping architecture, implementing APIs, partnering with data engineers and analysts, and ensuring the ongoing reliability and performance of the platform.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $157,590 and up to $218,900. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

• Design, build, and scale backend systems that support real-time decisioning across multiple integrations
• Develop robust, low-latency APIs and services that power our self-serve rules engine used by internal risk and operations teams
• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and product managers to ship features that directly impact member experience and operational efficiency
• Contribute to platform reliability and performance through thoughtful architecture, observability, and automation improvements
• Help evolve our experimentation, policy lifecycle, and ML integration workflows to support faster iteration and smarter decisions at scale

• 5+ years developing software in a production environment at scale
• Proven experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks
• Experience working with transactional databases and caching systems
• Exposure to architectural patterns of large, high-scale web applications
• An appreciation of maintainable and well-tested code
• Enjoyment in learning and diving into the deepest levels of how things work
• Start-up experience as an added plus
