Water Safety Instructor - Part-Time

Olive-Harvey College – Continuing Education Department of Aquatics

Olive-Harvey College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is seeking experienced Water Safety Instructors to teach group and/or private Learn‑to‑Swim lessons to children and adults. This position serves to inspire, motivate, and empower individuals of all skill levels in a safe and comfortable environment.

• Teach Aquatic Safety in and around water
• Assess swimmers' existing aquatic capabilities and plan lessons to meet each learner's level and progressive development
• Identify inefficient swimming techniques and provide modifications
• Monitor students to prevent accidents or potential injuries
• Recognize and respond swiftly to all aquatic emergencies
• Complete necessary aquatic daily reports and incident forms
• Participate in in-service training
• Maintain a clean and safe aquatic facility
• Collaborate effectively with other aquatic instructors, lifeguards, facilities staff, and management
• Flexibility to work early morning, day, evening, and/or weekend hours as needed

• High School Diploma or GED
• American Red Cross certifications:
  Water Safety Instructor or Basic Swim Instructor, First Aid, and CPR with AED (valid)
• Completed pre‑employment aquatic skills assessment

• Prior experience as a Certified Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor
• Valid lifeguard certification

Salary: $35.00 per hour
