The Warehouse Clerical Worker at Petland supports daily distribution center operations by performing administrative, data entry, and documentation tasks. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate inventory records, timely shipment of pet products, and smooth coordination between warehouse staff, transportation partners, and corporate teams. Strong Microsoft Office skills—especially Excel—are essential.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receive, unload, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders/packing slips, and document and report shortages, overages, and damages
  • Enter receiving and shipping data into the warehouse/inventory system with a high degree of accuracy
  • Label, stage, and put away merchandise to assigned locations; assist with bin/location maintenance
  • Pick, pack, and prepare outgoing orders; verify item numbers, quantities, weights, and dimensions
  • Create and process shipping documents (e.g., bills of lading, packing slips, carrier labels) in accordance with carrier requirements
  • Schedule and coordinate carrier pickups; track outbound shipments and provide status updates
  • Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventories; research and resolve inventory discrepancies
  • Maintain organized records (digital and/or hard copy) of receiving, transfers, and shipments
  • Keep docks, aisles, and storage areas clean, safe, and unobstructed; follow 5S/housekeeping standards
  • Use scanners, scales, label printers, and basic warehouse equipment per training
  • Follow all safety procedures and report hazards, near-misses, and incidents promptly
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, AP, Customer Service, and Store Operations to resolve issues
  • Support audits and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Strong attention to detail; accurate counting, matching, and documentation
  • Proficient data entry; comfort with inventory/warehouse systems, Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Familiarity with carrier platforms (UPS/Fed Ex/USPS) and shipping documentation
  • Basic math (counts, weights, measures, and simple reconciliations)
  • Effective written and verbal communication with drivers, vendors, and coworkers
  • Organizational and time-management skills; ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting
  • Problem-solving orientation; escalates issues appropriately with suggested solutions
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate scanners, label printers, pallet jacks; forklift a plus
  • Safety-first mindset; follows PPE and material-handling best practices
  • Team-oriented, reliable, and professional
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–2 years of shipping/receiving, warehouse, or retail stockroom experience preferred
  • Experience with inventory/warehouse software and handheld scanners preferred
  • Forklift certification (OSHA) preferred or willingness to obtain within 90 days (if required by site)
  • Hazardous materials shipping training a plus (only if job duties require)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT
  • Standing – Frequently required to stand

  • Sitting – Occasionally required to sit (computer/clerical tasks)
  • Travelling – Occasionally required to travel within/between facilities for operational needs
  • Finger Dexterity – Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity (data entry, scanning, labeling)
  • Climb, Bend, Balance, Stoop, Kneel or Crawl – Occasionally required to climb short ladders/steps, bend/stoop/kneel for low shelving
  • Talking/Hearing – Frequently required to talk or hear (in-person, radio, and phone)
  • Visual Accuity – Frequently utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read labels/documents, and use a keyboard
  • Lifting/Pushing/Carrying – Not required to lift more than 50 lbs. at a time with frequent lifting, pushing, or carrying of up to 25–35 lbs. Team-lift or mechanical assist above 35 lbs.
