This position is under the direct supervision of the Community Development Director.
GENERAL DEFINITION:
This position involves issuing minor permits and running day to day activities in the Community Development office. This person will be the first person of contact for developers and contractors looking for a permit. The Permit Technician provides information and requirements for minor permitting and code questions. This individual can issue commercial and residential trade and building permits. Any major building permits which require plan review will be issued by the Community Development Director of the Chief Building Official.
Permit technician will be responsible for taking in all paper and electronic plans and entering all preliminary plan review information into MYGOV system for review. All MYGOV permitting and documents and plans will be required to be maintained by the permit technician. This individual is required to maintain and archive all old plans and retain an electronic library of all archives inspections and plans for record.
Permit Technician takes in all payments made online, over the phone, by mail or in person and maintains our register and all payment history. This position will require you to bring the deposits to utility billing every day and ensure the register is balanced for the following day. The Permit technician will also be responsible for maintaining the Contractor registration program for the City of Chickasha.
Meaning all contractors must be registered and in good standing with the city before a permits or plan review can start. Yearly renewals will be the responsibility of the Permit technician. All oil well permit renewals will also be maintained and letters will be sent out by the Permit Technician. All boards and commissions which require letters and notices to be posted will be maintained and posted by the permit Technician.
Assist with code enforcement administrative work and take in all complaints and citizen questions for code enforcement and building inspectors while they are in the field. The Permit Technician is also responsible for administrative work performed in support of Planning, Building and Neighborhood Services including but not limited to answering multiple telephone lines, screening and directing calls, taking and relaying messages, providing information to callers, greeting persons entering department, directing persons to correct destination, assisting with inquiries from the public and customers, ensuring knowledge of staff movements in and out of organization, monitoring visitor access and maintaining security awareness.
General administrative duties performed include receiving and sorting mail and deliveries, filing, scheduling appointments, and preparing reports. The position assists builders and tradesmen with permits and licenses and is responsible for maintaining the reception area in an orderly and professional manner as well as other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

- Receive all plans and building permit requests; issue all minor permits and received all necessary information for plan review permits.
- Maintain all current registered contractors in good standing with the CIB Board and City of Chickasha registration program; also register all new contractors and verify all credentials before doing so; take in required payments and registration fees for all contractors.
- Maintain the archived building plans and all inspection reports in an electronic library and retain and scan all building plans
- Assist will all open records request for building information and plans.
- Issue all invoices for permits and registrations and take all payments by mail, person or over the phone.
- Maintain the register and deposit slips for the community development department.
- Request Purchase orders and maintain the billing for the Community Development Department.
- Attend and document minutes of various boards and commissions; maintain all public notices and send all required legal notices for various boards and commissions.
- Maintain all oil well permit renewal fees and take in the payments for the annual renewals.
- Receive telephone calls, handle complaints, and make proper referrals on departmental matters.
- Operate computer, calculator, photocopy machine, and other related office equipment.
- Maintain an awareness of proper safety procedures and guidelines and apply these in performing daily activities and tasks.
- Do any and all other functions that may be required by the Community Development Director or other appropriate supervisor.
