Pharmacy Technician (aka Patient Advocate)

Responsibilities

As Pharmacy Technician, your primary job is to receive and fill prescription requests for patients coming from hospitals, physicians, nurses or directly from the patient. Your work is typically overseen by a licensed pharmacist.

  • Retrieve prescription orders
  • Count, pour, measure and weigh tablets and medications
  • Compound medications
  • Select the proper prescription container
  • Create prescription labels
  • Price and file filled prescriptions; a licensed pharmacist will check the completed prescription before it is given to the patient
Other Pharmacy Technician Responsibilities
  • Process third-party claims
  • Maintain patient profiles
  • Complete cash register transactions
  • Answer phone calls
  • Take inventory of over-the-counter (OTC) medication
  • Stay aware of the latest medicines and their availability
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program or equivalent experience
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively
  • Knowledge of pharmacy regulations and safety standards
  • Proficient in computer skills and ability to learn new software quickly
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs
