The Chico Area Recreation & Park District is looking for energetic, responsible, and fun team members to help make unforgettable memories on the ice. Get paid to make a difference, spread cheer, and be part of one of Chico’s most beloved traditions!

About the Role

As an Ice Rink Team Member with the Chico Area Recreation & Park District, you’ll be at the center of one of Chico’s most magical community traditions. Working in the heart of the City Plaza, you’ll help create unforgettable experiences for families, children, and visitors from November through January. This role blends hospitality, safety, and fun. You’ll be the friendly face welcoming guests, the steady hand ensuring operations run smoothly, and the energetic voice that keeps the rink lively and engaging.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe rink environment at all times.
  • Oversee skate rentals, returns, and equipment care with accuracy and accountability.
  • Enforce rink rules consistently and respectfully to ensure guest safety.
  • Operate heaters, music systems, and microphones confidently.
  • Assist with clearing patrons safely and efficiently for Zamboni resurfacing breaks.
  • Handle money, tickets, and coupons with integrity and accuracy, with zero tolerance for mishandling or theft.

Teamwork and Professionalism

  • Support teammates by rotating duties and assisting where needed.
  • Respond to operational issues in real time; identify when situations require escalation to the supervisor.
  • Maintain composure and exercise sound judgement in fast paced or high pressure environments.
  • Remain off personal phones during shifts; stay proactive by finding tasks that enhance guest experience.

Program and Event Execution

  • Implement sponsorship activations, field trips, birthday parties, cabana rentals, and private rink reservations.

  • Alongside the Event team, supports event logistics and staffing needs for special events, ensuring events are operating safely and efficiently.

Customer Service

  • Provides outstanding customer service to participants, guests, community partners, and the public.
  • Fosters a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all staff and visitors, providing proactive assistance.
  • Engage with guests through games, announcements, and friendly conversation.
  • Respond professionally and proactively to guest questions, concerns, and routine customer issues.

  • Location: CARD Ice Rink, Chico City Plaza
  • Season Dates: October 26, 2026 – January 31, 2027 at the latest (training begins early November)
  • Hours: Shifts vary; evenings, weekends, and holidays required

Employees will receive 40 hours of sick leave per year, accrued at 2.8 hours per pay period. All unused hours are rolled over on January 1st up to a cap of 80 hours.
