Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per month

Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,221 - $13,224 per month

Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,825 - $14,523 per month

Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $8,593 - $15,211 per month

Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. See the Faculty Salaries At-a-Glance guide for more information.

Position Summary:

The Comparative Religion and Humanities Department in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts is collecting application materials for a pool of lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2026-27 academic year. Lecturers will typically be required to teach in class and online, with some hybrid courses involving online students logging in synchronously with in-class students. Appointments from the lecturer pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum education requirement for a lecturer appointment is a Master's level Degree in Religious Studies or other discipline in the Humanities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with the degree of PhD (or equivalent), teaching experience, materials that have been published by academic presses and expertise in subjects relevant to the department's teaching needs.

Responsibilities:

Lecturer positions in the department carry responsibilities in the areas of teaching undergraduate courses. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

The Department:

The Department of Comparative Religion and Humanities offers a B.A. in Religious Studies and a B.A. in Humanities, as well as online Degree Completion B.A. Programs in each of those disciplines. We also offer several minors, including Modern Jewish and Israel Studies, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Classical Civilization and Cinema Studies. In addition to this, we serve many students in General Education courses at both the lower and upper division levels.

We have about 60 Humanities majors and 40 Religious Studies majors, including a very diverse student body many of whom are located in all areas of California and enrolled in our online programs. For more…
