Lecturer A/2 Full‑Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,507 – $6,677 per month
Lecturer B/3 Full‑Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,221 – $13,224 per month
Lecturer C/4 Full‑Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,825 – $14,523 per month
Lecturer D/5 Full‑Time Equivalent Salary Range: $8,593 – $15,211 per month
Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. See the Faculty Salaries At‑a‑Glance guide for more information.

Position Summary: The Languages and Cultures Department in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts is collecting application materials for a pool of lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2026‑27 academic year. The department offers courses in multiple languages, area studies, and general education at the undergraduate level and in second language acquisition at the graduate level.
We are primarily seeking instructors to teach in person, but we are gradually expanding online offerings. We especially welcome applications from qualified candidates to teach Japanese and Korean language classes. Appointments from the lecturer pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.
Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education requirement for a lecturer appointment is a Master of Arts in a related field for undergraduate courses and a PhD in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, or a related field for graduate courses. For positions in teaching a language, candidates must also provide evidence of advanced proficiency in the language to be taught and a demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use communicative teaching methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in the area of specific need and evidence of effective teaching.
Responsibilities: Lecturer positions in the department carry responsibilities in the areas of teaching lower and upper division undergraduate courses and some graduate courses. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.
