The Languages and Cultures Department in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts is collecting application materials for a pool of lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2026-27 academic year. The department offers courses in multiple languages, area studies, and general education at the undergraduate level and in second language acquisition at the graduate level. Appointments from the lecturer pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.
The department will primarily seek instructors to teach in person, but is gradually expanding online offerings. Qualified candidates are especially encouraged to apply to teach Japanese and Korean language classes.
- A Master of Arts in a related field for undergraduate courses or a PhD in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, or a related field for graduate courses.
- For language teaching positions: evidence of advanced proficiency in the language to be taught and a demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use communicative teaching methodologies.
- Teaching experience in the area of specific need and evidence of effective teaching.
- Teach lower and upper division undergraduate courses and some graduate courses as assigned based on qualifications and departmental needs.
