Academic Advisor (Student Services Professional II)

Working independently, the Student Services Professional II (SSP II) performs moderately complex professional student services work to support student success. Under the primary direction from the NSC College Advising and Retention Specialist (CARS), incumbent responsibilities include direct academic advising for majors and minors within NSC departments/programs. Incumbent will perform student advisement, using basic interviewing and counseling techniques to assist students in making timely progress toward their degree objectives.

With a focus on specific populations, this SSP II will target outreach to current and incoming students and assist with the NSC Student Success Center - Holt Hall. In collaboration with the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, the incumbent will organize and supervise the mathematics tutoring program and the math learning lab.

Required

Education and Experience:

Experience:

Two years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.

A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for year basis.

Preferences:
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:

  • History of effectively establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships within a diverse student population.
  • Experience hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating students or staff.

Full-time

Pay Plan: 12/12

Work Schedule:

Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer:
Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm

CSU Classification Salary Range: $60,996 - $86,736 per year.
