Position Summary:
The English Department in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts is collecting application materials for a pool of lecturers. Availability of positions in composition, literature, linguistics and creative writing will be determined by need during the 2026-27 academic year. We are primarily looking for instructors to teach in person. Appointments from the lecturer pool are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term.
Minimum Qualifications:
The minimum education requirement for a lecturer appointment in linguistics is a PhD. For literature, composition, and creative writing, an MA in English or closely-related field is the minimum education requirement.
Responsibilities:
Lecturers will teach one or more sections of courses for which the Department Chair deems them qualified. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

The Department:
The Department of English is a large and complex unit with over 25 tenured, tenure-track, part-time faculty and teaching associates, and over 250 enrolled students pursuing degrees and certificates at the graduate and undergraduate levels. We offer BAs in English Studies, English Literature, and English Education;
Minors in Creative Writing, English, Linguistics, and Secondary Language Arts;
Certificates in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Teaching College-Level Writing, and Literary Editing and Publishing; and an MA in English Studies. The department also manages the Writer's Voice reading series, operates the Watershed Review literary magazine and Flume Press publishing programs, and oversees two student organizations.
