Department Summary:
Under direct supervision of the NSC CARS, the Academic Advisor performs basic professional student services work, utilizing a combination of high-level interpersonal skills and personal student contact. Academic advisors help students develop intentional decision-making skills and strategies for academic success and work on problems from the investigation and analysis stage through the solution and implementation stage. The primary work processes typically following well established work procedures and guidelines.
The Academic Advisor provides developmental, academic advising to potential and current students on a drop-in, referral, or appointment basis and perform related activities supporting the University’s focus on student success, retention, and graduation. Support ongoing retention and student success efforts including targeted engagement with prospective students throughout the admissions cycle and coordination of outreach activities.
Required
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
AND
One year of full-time equivalent experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate-level, job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.
Preferences:
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
- Knowledge of e-advising tools
- Experience with public speaking, outreach or recruitment, planning workshops, or facilitating training sessions

Pay Plan: 12/12
CSU Classification Salary Range: $53,784 - $76,104 per year.
Benefits: This position qualifies for benefits including tuition fee waiver (if eligible).
