Clinic Public Health Nurse Supervisor: The Clinic Public Health Nurse Supervisor position is located at the Butte County Public Health Clinics in Oroville and Chico. Prior outpatient nursing experience is desirable. The Public Health Nurse Supervisor oversees the daily clinical operations of the nursing staff in the clinics and is an integral member of the Community Health Division leadership team. Additionally, this role includes responsibilities as the Childhood Lead Prevention Program (CLPP) Coordinator.

Disease Control Public Health Nurse Supervisor

Infectious Disease Control:
Public Health Nursing Supervisor provides programmatic and supervisory leadership for Public Health Nurses and related staff within the Infectious Disease Control (IDC) Program. The supervisor oversees infectious disease investigation and response for California Title 17 reportable diseases and conditions, immunization programs, infection prevention activities, and grant‑funded initiatives supporting disease surveillance and outbreak response. Responsibilities include staff supervision, workload prioritization, quality assurance, performance management, and grant oversight to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.

The position works in close coordination with the Health Officer, Epidemiologist, Public Health Laboratory, Public Health Clinics, Environmental Health, and local healthcare facilities to ensure timely disease detection, reporting, and control. The supervisor serves as a key liaison with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and community partners, translating evolving regulatory guidance and best practices into local policy and operational workflows.

This role requires strong public health informatics and computer skills used for disease surveillance and data management platforms to monitor, analyze, and report disease activity. The supervisor ensures accurate, timely data entry, analysis, and reporting in support of epidemiologic surveillance, outbreak management, and regulatory compliance.

FLSA:
Exempt DEFINITION

Under general direction, plans, supervises, organizes, coordinates, and reviews the work of staff performing a variety of nursing care services in the examination and treatment of clients in various settings including health assessments, case management, care coordination, instruction, counseling and referral services, and education to high risk and special populations for the prevention and mitigation of diseases and adverse health conditions;

assumes programmatic and budgetary responsibility for assigned public health nursing program(s); provides responsible staff support to management in areas of expertise; and performs related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general direction from the Community Health Division Director or designee. Exercises direct supervision over professional, technical, and administrative staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is the full supervisory‑level class in the Public Health Nurse series that exercises independent judgment on diverse and specialized public health nursing programs and services with accountability and ongoing decision‑making responsibilities associated with the work. Incumbents are responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing and evaluating the work of assigned staff and for oversight of a variety of public health nursing programs and are responsible for providing professional level support to management in a variety of areas.

Performance of the work requires the use of independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines.
