Job/Department SummaryWorking under the supervision of a physician laboratory director or a higher‑level Clinical Laboratory Scientist, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist I (CLS I) is a licensed professional responsible for performing moderate to highly complex clinical laboratory tests and examinations. The CLS I provides essential laboratory data to medical staff for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness and disease within the university setting.
Responsibilities- Perform diagnostic testing ordered by licensed practitioners (e.g., urinalysis, pregnancy tests, blood tests, antibiotic sensitivity tests)
- Collect and prepare specimens for testing
- Interpret test outcomes and deliver results
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Ensure quality assurance and compliance with state and federal regulations, including CLIA
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent, as defined by the California Division of Laboratory Science
- Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license (required)
- Equivalent post‑secondary education, training, and experience may be accepted
- Experience in a student or university health setting
- Cross‑training in multiple lab areas or ability to support CLIA‑waived testing or phlebotomy
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning (continuing education, conferences, certifications, quality improvement involvement)
Pay plan: 12/12. Salary range: $32.01 – $46.63 per hour.
This appointment does not include health benefits for applicants not currently employed with CSU, Chico. Benefit eligibility for on‑campus employees will be reviewed based on their current benefit status.
Other Employment ConditionsThis position is considered a sensitive position based on CSU guidelines. Incumbents are responsible for the safety and security of Level 1 data and may be required to file a Form 700:
