POSITION: Ecological Reserves Facilities Coordinator

STATUS: Full-Time / Benefited / Hourly / Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION: $25.00 - $31.00 per hour

DEPARTMENT: Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve (BCCER)

LOCATION: Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve (BCCER)

RESIDENCY RESTRICTION: Candidate must be a California resident.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the ecological reserves project manager, the ecological reserves facilities coordinator will be responsible for maintaining and repairing vehicles, equipment, and facilities (including roads, gates, workshops, plumbing systems, and related infrastructure) that support reserve operations. The ecological reserves facilities coordinator is expected to work independently with minimal day-to-day oversight from the project manager, with the majority of time spent at the BCCER performing the job functions described below.

A smaller portion of time may be devoted to administrative tasks, such as scheduling repairs, coordinating with vendors and staff, and making purchases as needed.

Essential Job Functions
  • Coordinate, perform, and track repairs of vehicles (4x4 trucks, UTVs, and trailers), roads, facilities, and equipment.
  • Coordinate, perform, and track regular vehicle inspections.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for vehicles, roads, facilities, and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain inventory systems for vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinate and execute facility projects as needed, including coordinating with vendors and contractors.
  • Supervise staff members as needed.
  • Assist with groups at the BCCER, including field trips, research activities, and field crew projects.
  • Perform field work as needed, including vegetation management and crew supervision.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the ecological reserves project manager.
Employment Standards

Qualifications:

  • Three years of relevant work experience performing duties similar to those described above.
  • Proficiency in the operation and use of a variety of hand tools and equipment, including chainsaws, brush cutters, and other small equipment.
  • Experience with chainsaw and vehicle maintenance.
  • Experience with basic plumbing and irrigation maintenance and repair.
  • Experience with basic carpentry skills.
  • Ability to transport and operate heavy equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks independently.
  • Familiarity with implementing, promoting, and ensuring safety compliance.
  • Experience supervising others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of native and non-native plant species.
  • Basic Fire Fighter II certification or equivalent.
  • Completion of Wildland Fire Chainsaw Training (S-212).
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to perform both sedentary and physical labor.
  • Capacity and willingness to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Candidate must be a California resident.
Compliance Requirements
  • Completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
  • Candidate must be in possession of a valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance. Participation in the DMV Employer Pull Notice Program (driving record) is required.
