Build a Plumbing Division From the Ground UpRelief Services is seeking an experienced Plumbing Division Manager to launch and lead our new plumbing service division. This is a unique opportunity for a licensed plumber and proven leader who wants to build a division--not simply step into an established operation.
The Plumbing Division Manager will be responsible for developing the systems, team, and service standards needed to create a successful plumbing business within Relief Services. This role will oversee residential and commercial plumbing operations, hire and develop technicians, establish processes, manage performance, and help drive the division's financial success.
This is an entrepreneurial leadership position for someone who understands both the trade and the business side of running a service division. The right candidate will have experience leading plumbing teams, making operational decisions, managing profitability, and creating structure in a growing environment.
Relief Services is a growing field services company based in Chico, California, operating three service brands:
Johnny on the Spot Portable Toilets, Chico Septic, and a newly launching plumbing division. We serve residential, commercial, and municipal customers throughout Northern California.
With approximately $5.5 million in annual revenue, a goal of reaching $10 million within five years, and a second service location in development, we are building the leadership team and infrastructure needed to support continued growth.
What You Will DoLaunch and Lead the Plumbing Division- Build and manage Relief Services' plumbing division from the ground up.
- Establish service standards, operating procedures, quality expectations, and customer experience processes.
- Develop the division's service model for residential and commercial plumbing work.
- Help determine staffing needs, equipment requirements, tools, and operational resources.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures and training materials for plumbing services.
- Establish systems for scheduling, dispatching, job tracking, and customer communication.
- Work closely with company leadership to develop and grow the division.
- Oversee daily plumbing operations across Northern California.
- Hire, train, manage, and develop plumbing technicians as the division grows.
- Establish expectations for workmanship, productivity, safety, and customer service.
- Coordinate scheduling, dispatch, materials, equipment, and technician assignments.
- Monitor job quality, completion timelines, customer satisfaction, and service performance.
- Resolve operational challenges and make decisions in the field when needed.
- Build a reliable service operation that can scale with company growth.
- Manage division performance with responsibility for revenue growth and profitability.
- Review financial performance and provide weekly reporting to the Operations Director.
- Help establish pricing strategies in coordination with company leadership.
- Monitor labor costs, material costs, productivity, and job profitability.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, margins, and customer experience.
- Make operational decisions that support long-term division success.
- Recruit and develop skilled plumbing technicians.
- Train employees on company standards, processes, safety expectations, and customer communication.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and accountability to team members.
- Build a strong team culture focused on quality, professionalism, and reliability.
- Create opportunities for employees to grow as the division expands.
- Licensed journey-level plumber with verifiable California plumbing experience.
- Active C-36 Plumbing Contractor License preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing a plumbing crew, team, or division.
- Experience hiring, training, and developing plumbing technicians.
- Residential and commercial plumbing service experience.
- Experience with service scheduling software, dispatch systems, or field-service technology.
- Experience with budgeting, job costing, pricing, or financial performance tracking.
- Strong understanding of plumbing operations, service delivery, and customer expectations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, and build processes in a growing company.
- Ability to work on-site in Chico, California and travel to service locations as needed.
- Experience launching a new plumbing division, branch, or service operation.
