True North Housing Alliance is dedicated to ending homelessness in Butte County by providing pathways to permanent housing and the support people need to achieve long-term stability. Through housing programs, intensive case management, the operation of the Torres Shelter and the Howard Slater Navigation Center, we provide shelter, meals, showers, counseling, employment support, and other critical services that help individuals move from crisis to independence.

We believe every person deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to thrive. We are seeking an exceptional Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth, stability, and impact.

Position Summary

The Executive Director of the True North Housing Alliance is responsible for providing strategic leadership, ensuring organizational sustainability, and advancing the mission of the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director leads a dedicated staff, manages organizational resources, builds strong partnerships throughout the community, and ensures that services remain responsive to the evolving needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.

The ideal candidate is a visionary, relationship-focused leader who combines strategic thinking with operational excellence. They inspire confidence, build trust across diverse stakeholders, and have the financial and policy acumen and leadership experience necessary to strengthen and grow a crucial nonprofit organization.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Vision
  • Develop and communicate a compelling strategic vision for the organization over the next 2–5 years.
  • Lead implementation of strategic priorities with measurable goals and accountability.
  • Identify emerging trends in homelessness, affordable housing, behavioral health, funding opportunities, and public policy that may affect the organization’s future.
  • Position the organization to proactively respond to changes in community needs and funding environments.
  • Foster innovation while maintaining focus on the organization’s mission and long-term sustainability.
Organizational Leadership
  • Provide inspirational leadership that empowers staff while fostering accountability and high performance.
  • Build an organizational culture rooted in trust, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain talented staff.
  • Support leadership development throughout the organization.
  • Ensure operational excellence across all programs and administrative functions.
  • Partner effectively with the Board of Directors by providing timely information, strategic recommendations, and organizational insight.
  • Lead the organization’s long-term financial sustainability strategy.
  • Develop and oversee annual budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
  • Monitor financial performance and implement strategies that strengthen fiscal health.
  • Ensure sound financial controls, compliance, and responsible stewardship of public and private funds.
  • Identify opportunities to diversify revenue sources and reduce financial risk.
Community & External Relations
  • Serve as the primary ambassador for True North Housing Alliance.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with local, regional, and state government leaders.
  • Strengthen partnerships with funders, donors, foundations, businesses, healthcare organizations, and community partners.
  • Lead fundraising efforts in partnership with the Board and development staff.
  • Represent the organization in public forums, coalitions, media opportunities, and community events.
  • Advocate for policies and initiatives that improve outcomes for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Program Oversight
  • Ensure programs consistently deliver high-quality, client-centered services.
  • Monitor organizational outcomes using data and continuous improvement practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, contracts, grants, and accreditation standards.
  • Balance mission impact with operational efficiency.
Governance
