POSITION SUMMARYThe program manager is directly responsible for facilitating preceptorships in Northern California for senior-level nursing students, unlicensed new graduate nursing students, and licensed RNs. This position manages the program, including supervision of staff and coordination of staff activities; developing clinical preceptorships; recruitment of participants and promotion of the program statewide; orientation and ongoing supervision of participants; and evaluation of sites. This position serves in an advisory capacity during the application and placement period and functions as the participants’ immediate supervisor.
This position functions under the general supervision of the director of the school of nursing.
- Provides overall supervision of staff, including hiring, orientation, delegation of duties, periodic performance evaluations, and decisions regarding retention or dismissal.
- Interviews, screens, selects, trains, and evaluates staff.
- Assigns workloads and establishes performance standards and goals.
- Prepares work schedules and tracks attendance.
- Maintains ongoing communication with participants and preceptors during biannual placement periods.
- Responds to participants and preceptor concerns as needed.
- Conducts on-site visits.
- Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with senior administrators and staff at more than 30 Northern California state hospitals to promote participant preceptorships and placements.
- Assists partner hospitals in providing placements for supplemental training of current staff and orientation of new and prospective employees.
- Maintains correspondence and conducts visits with Northern California colleges to encourage enrollment in the RCNP program.
- Screens large applicant pools twice annually to establish participating cohorts.
- Secures site approval and placement opportunities for participants’ clinical assignments.
- Attends and participates in school of nursing and university meetings as appropriate on behalf of the program.
- Provides overall coordination and implementation of RCNP program and initiatives.
- Oversees the development and implementation of new policies that support RCNP program goals.
- Collaborates with appropriate departments to review and coordinate policies, practices, and procedures to ensure consistency in program communication and accessibility.
- Conducts and processes individual and program evaluations upon program completion.
- Analyzes and interprets collected program data.
- Documents trends and recommends and implements modifications to enhance program effectiveness.
- Conducts fiscal reviews and evaluates operations to identify service improvements.
- Represents the university, consistently promoting a positive and professional public image.
- Demonstrates an open, participatory, team-oriented approach; works cooperatively to achieve departmental mission and goals; and shows flexibility and adaptability in response to change.
- Keeps commitments and deadlines.
- Proactively educates staff on changes related to policies, services, and expectations.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, as well as California State University, Chico policies and guidelines, and establishes and implements appropriate procedures.
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in managing organizational equipment, property, and funds. Authorizes expenditures within approved budget parameters.
- Effectively establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships within a diverse environment.
