Position: Farm Lead - 2215

Deseret Farms of California in Woodland,CA is seeking a proactive and results-driven Farm Lead to support our farm management team with successfully executing the crop plan. The Farm Lead is an example to and sets the pace for other employees as they work alongside the crew to irrigate, spray, harvest, mow, and execute other farm tasks.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Farm Management team in establishing accomplishment rate expectations for the various farm operations.
  • Lead the farm crew in accomplishing the goals and meeting expectations through training, explaining, and encouraging the team.
  • Irrigate to maintain soil moisture at optimal levels and maintain systems to operate at correct pressures and with no major issues.
  • Apply fertilizer and amendments accurately and according to schedule.
  • Implement sanitation practices to meet the standards required for each crop.
  • Ensure herbicide applications are carried out efficiently and in a timely manner to be effective and reduce costs.
  • Maintain non-crop vegetation at manageable heights and within acceptable ranges.
  • Ensure young trees have a high survival rate within the optimal growth rate.
  • Carry out replanting tasks in timely, correct and methodical manner to maximize yields and returns.
  • Assist Farm Management in meeting established yield and quality goals.
  • Identify areas of improvement; make recommendation on continuous improvement projects.
  • Various company-wide or farm tasks as directed by management.
  • Notify supervisors immediately of any food or employee safety issues and concerns.
  • Champion a best-in-class safety program by attending all safety training, complying with all food safety programs, using PPE and adhering to all other EHS programs.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of farm equipment and irrigation systems utilized in crop production including safety, operation, adjustments, calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of how to care for trees with ability to recognize general orchard health conditions.
  • Competent math skills with ability to calculate accomplishment rates, spray tank mixtures, application rates, etc.
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
  • Ability to obtain CA Private Applicator Certificate.
  • Must have a valid, in-state driver's license.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job which includes lifting and carrying repetitively up to 50lbs. This job will occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places, and/or risk of electrical shock; frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals; and regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level is often loud.

    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) per applicable laws and regulations will be supplied.
  • Must be able to accommodate the regular farm schedule of 55-60 hours per week, which may include days, nights, swing, and weekend shifts, per business needs.
