Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using elements of Game Stop’s buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the assistant develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and shared passion for gaming.

The role ensures that products are easy to see and buy, builds sales by sharing product and gaming knowledge with guests, maintains a clean and organized environment, and grows guest loyalty and repeat business. This position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide best-in-class guest service by promptly greeting guests, responding to inquiries quickly and courteously, and recommending appropriate items.
  • Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements and current sales initiatives.
  • Process guest purchases and returns accurately using the Point-of-Sale (POS) computer system.
  • Respond to guest comments or questions in person or by phone, escalating issues to the Store Manager when necessary.
  • Promote Game Stop’s unique guest benefits such as the new title reservations program, trade-in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
  • Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations for associates and training associates in all aspects of their roles.
  • Observe associate performance, provide timely feedback to the Store Manager, and address unsatisfactory performance as directed.
  • Provide timely recognition and feedback to all associates, regularly inputting written feedback into Workday/HR service management systems.
  • Ensure associates complete all onboarding, job training, and compliance training prior to opening or closing a shift on their own.
  • Schedule associates in accordance with scheduling guidelines, ensuring breaks and meals are accounted for and staffing levels meet guest service goals.
  • Approve payroll, approve paid time off requests, and verify associates are paid for all time worked.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and merchandised store environment, ensuring all fixtures and equipment are in proper working order.
  • Fulfill and ship Omni-Channel orders daily.
  • Protect company assets through effective inventory control and loss prevention practices, visually inspecting associates’ packages and belongings as required.
  • Support the team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals while completing required administrative duties.
  • Perform store inventory counts, restock merchandise, and organize products on the sales floor.
  • Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transaction totals accurately in the POS system, complete closeout paperwork, and make bank deposits as scheduled.
  • Verify all shipments for discrepancies, record differences in the POS system, and communicate them to the Store Manager or District Manager.
  • Process defectives, recalls, and stock pulls accurately and promptly, ensuring proper labeling and packing lists.
  • Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety, addressing hazardous situations immediately and reporting injuries per company guidelines.
